The Man who fell from the sky | Into thin air

In the work of dance/circus company Panama Pictures, movement enters a challenging dialogue with architectural scenery. The objects and spaces created by permanent designer Sammy van den Heuvel not only determine the atmosphere but also form a challenge, obstacle and motive for the performers. The dancers and acrobats of Panama Pictures push the boundaries of what is possible and make their physical sensation tangible for the audience.

With Panama Pictures, award winning choreographer Pia Meuthen develops an authentic signature: unpolished and raw, where dance, circus and music flow into each other.

A new universe is created for each performance. Dance and acrobatics intertwined with classical music, electronic beats and vocals.

Pia Meuthen finds her inspiration in literature and philosophy, translating her sources of inspiration into poetic images. The work touches the audience with its great physical impact and the underlying humanity throughout. She depicts worlds that are recognisable to the viewer, but also allow for their own interpretation.

The Man who fell from the sky

The Man who fell from the sky shows men who, without a foothold or compass, must relate to an environment that is subject to change. Hope, solidarity, but also futility, frustration and the struggle to find a place for oneself alternate.
Panama Pictures interweaves dance and floor acrobatics to create a penetrating and poetic series of images with a strong physical charge, in which the strength and vulnerability of the human body are paramount.

Into thin air

Stranded on a tilted staircase, three performers are floating in space, left to each other and to themselves. One moment they almost slide down the stairs, the next they regain their balance, exploring the boundaries of this lost space with no grip. Until gravity tilts and their bodies are pulled upwards. Here, on this unstable island high above our heads, different laws apply, and a thrilling game is created in which acrobatics and dance merge.
